Sprachschmiede is run by the public relations project of Collaborative Research Centre 1646 ‘Linguistic Creativity in Communication’, a research centre that has been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) since April 2024. Our goal is to systematically research linguistic creativity as a central feature of human language competence.
We investigate how linguistic creativity gives rise to novel expressions, how we as speakers wield creativity and how it enriches the way we communicate.
The research work in the CRC is divided into several projects that approach linguistic creativity research from different perspectives and using a variety of methods.
Sprachschmiede is a platform where the individual projects host and publish their studies and experiments in the form of citizen science language projects, allowing interested members of the public to not only gain insights into linguistics, but also actively participate as co-researchers.
