Sprachschmiede is an internet platform where we invite the public to join us in our linguistics research, i.e. the study of language. Are you interested in how language works, or would you like to learn more about how we study it in academia? Then you've come to the right place!
Sprachschmiede is all about citizen science, which is the practice of involving the general public in the scientific process. And by that we mean you! Here at Sprachschmiede, there are several language projects to explore that allow you to participate in research first-hand!
Each language project deals with a small research topic. You will learn how linguistic research works, contribute experimental data yourself, and even get to try your hand at analyzing some yourself! Linguistics is a very broad and diverse field, so there is a lot to experience!
Some projects are very short, so you can complete them quickly in between other tasks, while others are larger research journeys with several stages that you can work on over several days. However, they can all be researched conveniently on your computer, and some even on your smartphone or tablet!
Usually, projects have their own forums that allow you to exchange ideas with other citizen scientists after completion and advance the research yourself!
